Moses gathered the people to further instruct them about the building of the Sanctuary.
He began with the observance of Shabbat.
Why?
What’s the connection between Shabbat and the Sanctuary?
Shabbat is a Sanctuary we build every week in time. Not in space, like the sanctuary.
It can be observed everywhere.
It has guarded our people through times of exile and oppression because we can carry the Shabbat with us as a Sanctuary in time to every place and every situation.

Parsha Vayak’heil – וַיַּקְהֵל Torah Summary:

Moses teaches the rules of Shabbat. (35:1-3) Moses asks the Israelites for a donation of gifts and those who are skilled help build the Mishkan [Tabernacle] under the direction of Bezalel and Oholiab. (35:4-38:20) vayak’heil – וַיַּקְהֵל Moses gathered the people to further instruct them about the building of the Sanctuary. He began with the observance of Shabbat. Why?
