The main issue in this Torah portion is when we are clean/pure and when we are not. This determines if we can get near the holy or not, a relationship with the sacred has limits, we need to be in a certain disposition to get close to the Divine.

God describes the rituals of purification for a woman after childbirth. (12:1-8) God sets forth the methods for diagnosing and treating a variety of skin diseases, including tzara-at (a leprous affection), as well as those for purifying clothing.
