CLASS SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE

Text Study with Rabbi David
“Joseph” – the great story of our fourth and hidden ancestor. Joseph is a paradigm of change (Tikkun ), success, and forgiveness. We will follow Joseph from his childhood, the stories of his dreams of grandeur, the stories of his sitting in the Egyptian prison, his rise to the top, his revelation to his brothers, and his saving his brothers, father, and the People of Israel. We will explore why Joseph and the history of Joseph are so impressive and so dramatic. We will examine the revolutions/transformations in the character of Joseph, and try to see what the Torah is trying to teach us in this story and how it is related to the process we are supposed to go through in our own lives.
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Beginning Hebrew with Mark Goldstein – Level Bet
The 2023-24 Beginning Hebrew class is designed to be a continuation of our first year of study (Level Aleph). The emphasis of the first year was learning to read Hebrew and equip students to be able to follow along with the Shabbat and holiday services in the synagogue. In year two, Level Bet, we will continue to develop reading fluency by reading from the Siddur. This will help you become more comfortable with the Hebrew portion of the prayer services and help you prepare for becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, if that is your goal. In Level Bet, we will start to build vocabulary and study Hebrew grammar. The textbook (and companion handbook) will be Biblical Hebrew, An Introductory Grammar by Kelley and Crawford.
