CLASS SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Text Study with Rabbi David

The Goy: The Other in Jewish tradition. Who is the Goy? How was the category of the goy born? Why do we need such a category that is unique to our tradition? The Goy as the center of a stable and long-standing structure that involves God, Jewish law, history, and salvation. We will journey from the Bible to looking at some of the goy’s instantiations in contemporary Jewish culture in Israel and in the United States. We will examine the extraordinary resilience of the Jew/Goy division and ask how Judaism would look without the gentile as its binary contrast.

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Beginning Hebrew with Mark Goldstein

In this class we will learn how to read Hebrew from the prayer book and learn the meanings of the words in the prayer book. Students should have some knowledge of the Alef Bet.

In Person Only for High School, College, and Adults

Monthly – 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Sing Shabbat with Cantor Lauren

Music is magic! The melodies we sing on Shabbat express the prayer texts that lie on the pages of the siddur and lie within the deepest core of our hearts and souls. When we sing and pray as a community we create that magic together and become even stronger. Through this class, we will experience the magic of music in its communal form and get to know each other in a meaningful way.

Sing Shabbat with Cantor Lauren is for anyone who would like to feel more comfortable with Shabbat prayers and music, anyone who loves to sing, and for music lovers and community-minded folks alike. You do not need to have any singing or sight-reading experience. This class is open to everyone, and please RSVP so that we know how many materials to make.

Dates for Spring 2023: Jan 23, Feb 20, Mar 20, Apr 24, May 15, Jun 5
