Johanna W.H.van Wijk-Bos is Professor Emerita of Hebrew Bible of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She retired from her full-time position at the Seminary in 2017 after 40 years of teaching. Ordained to the professional ministry in 1977 in Rochester New York at the Downtown United Presbyterian Church she has served her denomination through teaching, lecturing, writing and speaking for the rights of those who are denied full citizenship in religion and society. She has participated in interfaith conferences and discussion groups in the United States and abroad.
She is the proud parent of Martin Bos and grandmother of his three children with Kim Tatman, Emma Claire Bos, Dylan McKenna Bos and Maxwell Martinus Bos. Her husband A. David Bos, a Presbyterian minister, author, poet and activist, died Feb.12, 2011. Among her writings are the books: Making Wise the Simple – The Torah in Christian Faith and Practice (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2005) and Reading Samuel (Macon, GA: Smyth and Helwys, 2012). Her most recent book with Eerdmans The End of the Beginning; Joshua and Judges is the first of a three-volume series on the Former Prophets entitled A People and a Land. Volume 2 and 3 are scheduled to appear in 2020.
