Interfaith Shabbat – Heather Thiessen
Friday, February 16 at 7:00 pm

Join us for a thought-provoking Interfaith Shabbat sermon, as we delve into the wisdom of the Torah portion Terumah. In this sermon, we will explore the profound question, “What is a sanctuary, really?” This inquiry extends beyond the boundaries of any specific religious community, touching the essence of every individual’s spiritual journey. by contemplating what identifies a sanctuary, a space found in various faiths. We aim to uncover common ground and foster understanding in the rich tapestry of interfaith connections. Join us in this exploration of challenges and possibilities, as we reflect on the broader significance of sanctuaries and the shared aspirations that unite us in the interfaith project.

Rev. Dr. Heather Anne Thiessen (M.Div., ThM Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Ph.D. Humanities University of Louisville), is, in her own words, “a happily married, Bible-reading, Presbyterian Church-going, small fuel-efficient car driving, still pretty much second wave feminist, and generally out white lesbian Hoosier mom and grandmother. (I encourage requests to see photos of my grandson.) According to one of my professors, this makes me ‘too theologically conservative, too socially liberal.’ That depends, however, on what one means by ‘too’ – ‘context is everything.’” She is a former adjunct instructor in religious studies at Spalding University and currently serves several small Presbyterian churches in Southern Indiana “as needed.”
