Shalom Chevre~Dear Friends,

We are thrilled to present you with the opportunity to be a part of an exciting initiative through the Louisville Orchestra–partnering synagogues with historically Black Churches across Louisville. The Orchestra will be presenting a concert on March 11 as part of their series on Black and Jewish Music. This concert will feature both an original piece commissioned by the orchestra based on the works of James Baldwin and the Leonard Bernstein piece Age of Anxiety.

Twenty members of The Temple will join together with twenty members from Elim Baptist Church, along with their Pastor, Vincent James, to build relationships and study texts related to these two musical pieces. Those who join the initiative will participate in two gatherings and then attend the March 11 concert along with all participating synagogues and churches.

The meetings will be held on two Sundays from 1:00 – 2:30 pm: Sunday, February 12 at The Temple and Sunday, February 19 at Elim Baptist Church. Elim Baptist Church is located at 3114 Greenwood Ave, Louisville, KY 40211.

Louisville Orchestra is graciously providing tickets for the participants to attend the concert on March 11. The Concert on March 11 begins at 7:30 pm at the Kentucky Center For the Arts.

After the concert, we will have a special reception for all participants from synagogues and churches across Louisville with conductor Teddy Abrams and other special guests. We hope you’ll join us for this amazing opportunity to build relationships, explore old and new texts, and appreciate the music of the Louisville Orchestra on a whole new level.

There are, unfortunately, only 20 spots for this opportunity, and we anticipate more sign-ups than we have spots. We want to reassure everyone that there will be more opportunities for partnership if you don’t get a spot for this opportunity!
