WRJ/Sisterhood Book Club
December 3 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Please join the WRJ/Sisterhood Book Club for fascinating reading and interesting discussions. On Friday, December 3, (bumped a week because of Thanksgiving) at 10:00 am, we will discuss City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert. She wrote Eat, Pray, Love, but this book is very different. You might want to consider listening to this novel, since the audiobook narrator is top-notch. As a disclaimer, there are a few racy passages.
Google says, “Nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris arrives in New York City in the summer of 1940 with nothing but a sewing machine and a heretofore unindulged taste for adventure. Finding employment as a seamstress at the Lily Playhouse, a charmingly down-at-heel Manhattan revue, Vivian quickly becomes the toast of the showgirls, transforming the tat only fit for the cheap seats into creations for goddesses. Adventure and opportunity blossom on every corner of this strange wartime city of girls, and Vivian and her girlfriends mean to down New York to its last drop. But there are hard lessons to be learned, and bitterly regrettable mistakes to be made. Vivian learns that to live the life she wants, she must live many lives, ceaselessly and ingeniously making them new.”
On Friday, January 28, we will discuss The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner, a novel filled with suspense, secrets, and vengeance.
We extended our reliance on Zoom meetings because of the local COVID surge. Please check with me by email after Thanksgiving to see where things stand for our December meeting.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Please contact Susan Waterman at [email protected] with questions, comments, and suggestions for future book selections.
